Anyone seen our resident golf pro?
« on: 01/03/09 22:45:13 »

I'm toying with the idea of a new set of irons. I'm sure my game will improve with new clubs. Right?  :th_lmao:

Any suggestions on make and models? I've been playing with the same set of Mizunos (steel shafts) for 10 years.

Don't ask about handicaps either.  :-\

I like the Ping IsI Nickel irons. I took from 6I up and replaced them with Hybrids. I've never hit the ball so good. Now, from any distance I just pull the right club and let it fly. Laser out your yardages  is all you need to do. Buy the 6I to 3I replace what you need to. Keep your short irons.

I would say it depends on what you are looking for.  You said you play Mizunos... are they semi blades?  Do you hit them well?  I'm sure they have the s300 dynamic golds shafts in them because I think that's the standard.  Do you want something that is more forgiving?  Or do you like the semi blade clubs?  If you go with something that is more forgiving like the hybrids then you give up workability.  answer these questions and I will give it some thought....  Also what type of ball flight do you have?  meaning draw, fade, straight,  high , low, medium trajectory.  Let me think about it for a bit and i'll give you some options.   8)

I'll check those out Bozo.

I'm sure they are semi blades. Cavity on the backside?
I can usually hit them well. Pretty good up and out hits. Unless I'm getting
into my bad swing and slicing the shit out of the ball.  :grindteeth:

Looking for something that is forgiving. I can't work the ball so workability means nada.

You should check those out. They hit the ball straighter and higher. It turned my game around, joker can tell you. I built my own with graphite shafts. One thing though. If you like your clubs to look purdy....get the little head covers.

Those hybrids are a good choice if you are looking for forgiveness.  On the other hand if you want to stick with something that looks like your clubs but are more forgiving, Mizuno make a couple clubs.  The MX-200 and the MX-100 might be an option.  The MX-950 is there hybrid looking club.  Also I know Cleveland makes a set of hybrid looking irons that are forgiving.  They are called the Hibore XLI irons.  You could look at some callaways but I think they suck!  Ping has the G-10 irons that are pretty good if you didn't want to go with something like a hybrid.  Taylor made has something similar.  Price wise the clubs my dad recommended are probably going to be the best.  If you buy a name brand it will probably cost you 150 to 200 more.  Let me know what you are thinking.

I built my own with graphite shafts.
My Dad builds his own clubs too. He brings me all his "extras". I keep telling him I can only carry so many clubs in my bag.

I'm looking at Mizunos and the Z-force right now on Ebay.
I can save $100- $200 from there than any golf store.
Even Pro Golf Discount.  #)

The Z10 are a great price.
If I add in the 1 degree lie and graphite shafts, it brings it close to $300.00.
Then I was seeing what else was out there at that price.

Still not sure if I can swing a graphite shaft. I still try to kill that ball.

You don't need graphite!  LOL  Graphite is for girls.... :th_lmao:  j/k bozo... lol  It depends on what you want.  It's going to be a heck of a lot lighter than you are used to.  I like steel personally.  Although for you it probably doesn't matter... LMAO :icon_rofl:

 :finger007:

I was bidding on a set of the MX 950. 2 hours left and they will go for close to $400.00 bones.

Found another set of MX 950 with steel (stiff) shafts for $319.00. A lot of steel (regular) for sale on there.
